Great Weekend for Simsmore Juniors!

By Claudia Berns, January 25, 2010 9:48 am

Saturday was a great local battle against Farmington Valley Racquet Club!

The Simsmore 18 & Under crew held strong for a 56-48 victory!

The doubles were split 2-2. Jason and Mary played the game of doubles to a “t” and won 6-3, high fiving on winning and losing points!
Rob and Colin brought on the second win with overpowering serves and net game!
The dilemma of being seperated from your partner, covering your line, getting the ball by the closer player and using soft shots will continue to be our focus in the doubles classes
The singles showed the need for variety on your game. Players that get the ball back more than you can create the need for the ability to determine the end of the point. Using the front court on either side of the net is the answer we are working on right now in our singles clinics.
Jason, Cameron, Colin, Lauren and Kelly won thier singles matches pushing Simsmore Tennis to a 56-48 win.

Tough loss for 4.5 men

By Claudia Berns, January 19, 2010 8:39 am

Once again the Simsmore Men’s 4.5 team ran into a deep and competitive
squad from Newington, where the 5-0 defeat did not do justice to how close
each match truly was. There were no sets that were 6-0 or 6-1; rather,
the first two doubles teams had tie-breakers and the 3rd team of John
Wright and Chris Kent went three sets. Many of the Newington players had
big serves. And on their faster surface, we found ourselves struggling,
at times, to get the point started.

Great Weekend for Simsmore 3.0 Women!!!!

By Claudia Berns, January 18, 2010 9:11 am

SMASHERS VICTORY!!!!

Congratulations to Laura @ S1 holding strong with 6-1 5-7 set scores & winning the tie breaker point with a 10-7 finish!
“Cheers” to Brooke who handily took on her opponent @ S2 in two sets 6-2 6-2 ! The official scores may be recorded @ 6-3 6-3 ~ isn’t there always a story!
Catherine & I had a slow start, losing the first set 2-6 before settling down to take the second set 6-3. The tie breaker was one painful point at a time, but finally our’s @ 12-10!
Allison & Lynn played strong in a very tough match, one that the scores 0-6 2-6 did not reflect the game they played! Despite the outcome, great tennis ladies!
DiAnne & Sheryl, battled it out with 4-6 7-6 scores taking there opponents (and yes, one really was a giant) to a tie-breaker and a “soo close” to a win finish! Next time!

Double Victories for 8.0 Mixed!

By Tim Ruark, January 18, 2010 8:58 am

It was a sweet ending to a Simsmore weekend as both Simsmore Tennis 8.0 teams posted home victories. For the undercard, Simsmore1, also known as SinMore, pulled out a very close 2-1 victory over Canton. Julie McNeil and Jon Corbett won in straight sets at D1, Heidi Mullane and Tim Ruark won in a 3rd set tie breaker at D2, while Christina Bill and Lowell Kahn lost a close match at D3. The six pack adjourned to the lounge, joined by many hanger-ons and groupies. It was more than limoncello, as Lowell poured a red from his own winery, and Heidi supplemented with her friends from Mexico. From their high and mighty perch above the courts, SinMore had a perfect view of Simsmore2, captained by Carolyn Lee.

4.0 Men Beat the Champs

By Tim Ruark, January 16, 2010 11:14 pm

In case you missed it on ESPN, the Simsmore 4.0 men were victorious yesterday against the formerly unbeatable Middlebury!
We won 4-1, dropping only D1 in 3 sets. Aram Bolduc was not really tested at S1, as he won in straight sets. At S2, Chaz Weyer also won in straight sets, but it was a little tighter, but Chaz was patient and consistent, two winning qualities in tennis.

All three of our doubles lines won their first set. The match ended early, but few people knew it, because Mike Knight and Tim Ruark staged a little comeback in set two, posting a 6-2, 6-4 victory at D3. The media glare was on courts 1 and 2, but Mike and Tim were very adult about the lack of attention. That and the fact that we knew I would write this recap, and credit the duo accordingly.
